Re: Richmond's Winter Project
Almost inevitably this has made me have second thoughts about these glyphs:
- -
As I have a feeling these should be treated as composites (conjunct syllabics).
And I wonder if the Nasal 'N', as well as the 'H' should not be directly accessible from the keyboard?

Re: Richmond's Winter Project
These also need considering:
- -
The QHA (on the left) should be treated as a conjunct of QA,
The SHA (0x1238) is a distinct glyph, as is the Nasal N (0x1298).

Re: Richmond's Winter Project
Rethinking things I realise that is NOT necessary, but what IS necessary are a set of:
2. More instructional 'pages' so users can become completely comfortable about conjunct syllabic input.
So: I'll get right back to that AFTER my current work.

Re: Richmond's Winter Project
Completely redid the vowel 'button':
- -
Using IPA symbols and adding this:
- -
HOWEVER the cardScript will need substantial editing to take that into account.
Obviously, although I have very nearly completed the LEARNER'S interface I will NOT copy any activation code across until I have edited the STANDARD interface's code (no obvious point in doing the same thing twice).

Currently implementing POSITION PREFERENCES across ALL the stack's cards:

Oh, and I finished the 'buttons' here:

Re: Richmond's Winter Project
Quite obviously this is ridiculous:
- -
So, what is needed is some sort of ENTRY METHOD menu card:
- -
Although nothing quite a excessive as that.

2. More instructional 'pages' so users can become completely comfortable about conjunct syllabic input.
3. An interface where users can type SIMULTANEOUSLY in Ge'ez and IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet).
COMPLETED: 4. An interface where the 'buttons' are labelled in both Amharic and IPA symbols. This will help with learning the script.
5. An overlay feature where users can see the characters on their own keyboard ontop of the virtual Amharic keyboard.

Personally I have come to dislike this:
- - -
Although, at the time (about 12 years ago) I thought I was being clever. This has ONLY any utility if the end-user employs a US English keyboard(layout) which is ridiculous.
However: there seems no way to 'read' an operating system's key layout from inwith OXT that is consistent cross-platform which would allow me to overlay a virtual keyboard that would automatically conform to an end-user's keyboard.

Re: Richmond's Winter Project
Tuesday is a marvellous sort of day to have an existential crisis about something that is ONLY meant to be occupying the weekends.
Anyway: to cut a short story long, the palatalised and labialised syllabics need rehashing: and THAT will start tomorrow (Wednesday).
Oh, and here is a useful link:

Here we go again: a 'fake' symbol for palatalisation/jotation.

Re: Richmond's Winter Project
The code for palatised syllabics has been rejigged:
- -
The previous code has been commented out (by putting '--' at the start of the line) and the new code inserted below it.
I have chosen to comment out the old code rather than delete it as a record of the "journey" involved.
- -
Palatised/Jotated forms are entered via either of these keys:

Re: Richmond's Winter Project
So: Happy People: What is next?
Well: for starters, these features have NOT been implemented yet:
2. More instructional 'pages' so users can become completely comfortable about conjunct syllabic input.
3. An interface where users can type SIMULTANEOUSLY in Ge'ez and IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet).
5. An overlay feature where users can see the characters on their own keyboard ontop of the virtual Amharic keyboard.
#2 is "in the production line".
#3 is going to be a complete pain as it will be necessary to extend the cardScript to about twice its length, and involve a lot of coding.
#5 May NEVER materialise as I should like it to be (an adaptive overlay), and I may just have to be content with a US English overlay.
AND:
6. As well as the CONSONANT and the VOWEL entry groups I shall introduce a third layer for Labialvelar syllabics.
