Not sure why you'd use a beta?richmond62 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 01, 2025 7:47 am OK: here's Lubuntu "Perverted Penguin" . . . err . . . whoops . . . "Plucky Puffin": 25.04 Beta inside VMware Fusion on
Anyway, before you get too far into this, I'm fascinated as to where your .zip files are coming from. They should be 7zip for tIDE and for OXT Lite.

Re: Lubuntu
MEGA offers you the chance to download them as ZIP files.I'm fascinated as to where your .zip files are coming from.
The 'lovely' thing about that is that you have to go through 2 stages of decompressing things rather than one.

Of course, slow on the uptake as usual, I only worked that out AFTER I had downloaded them.

Oh: I wonder what that '!' means on the OXT Lite icon:

I clicked on EXECUTE and it didn't:

Why do I have a funny feeling about its owner being ROOT?

Theoretically at least, tIDE should run . . . I'll click EXECUTE:

I will test in Lubuntu when I get a moment. It won't be the beta version though.

Re: Lubuntu
I don't know why it's not working for you, but I've just tested all three in Lubuntu successfully.
This is my lubuntu 24.04.2 (LTS: Long Term Support) - downloaded from here

Here's a demo video of the complete install process and using them briefly.
I went with the "minimal" version of Lubuntu.
(Since when 7.48GB of a base install of Linux is supposed to be "minimal", I don't know). Not when you consider AntiX, which has also got multiple programs installed, a full office suite and test documents is a lot leaner and more efficient, but there you go...

Re: Lubuntu
I have just installed Lubuntu-desktop on a Xubuntu LTS 24.04 system and am happy to report that BOTH tIDE 1.12 and OXT Lite 1.10 run without all the "funny glitches" that are displayed in Xubuntu.

Re: Lubuntu
This is exactly why I made the .appImage version, you can include whatever libraries you want to include (so long as they're compatible license), although appImage isn't very good to use if you want to modify the IDE files, since it's a locked disk image.[4302] MCU_library_load libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0 -> libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0

Wasn't sure if MCU_library is something specific to LC (MC=MetaCard?), but MCU_library_load I assume is a library that uses dlopen to load library binaries on Linuxes.
The building systems LC was using for Linux build was Debian 8 which reached end of life five years ago. The problem is there's fewer distros around now that have old gdk2 gtk2 available in their default software repos.
AppImage is one way (there's alternatives) to ensure the thing lasts a bit longer before it completely stops working on newer Linux distros, but I couldn't get a binary for webkitGTK2 that's compatible with GTK2, the repos that had it are gone or have expired security certificates so one would have to dig it from some archive, or do some certificate trickery, or build that from source if one wanted to use Webkit instead of Chomium/CEF that no longer works correctly with Browser Widget and various Linux Window Managers.
