'Oddly enough' it does not seem to have been updated at all as there is no info
on compiling which is 'coming soon.'

I doubt that, there may be a few changes that weren't included in 9.6.3, and I know there was pull requests for fixes from community members that were not rolled in, but I don't think there's a whole lot to get excited about there.
Certainly having Engine(s) source code is extremely useful or rather it can/will be.
